The year was 1965, up-and-coming singer Tom Jones had just released his third single, 'With These Hands' when he traveled to Los Angeles for the first time. As a teenager, Jones would tell his friends in his Welsh home town "I'll meet Elvis one day," and years later he was finally making his dream come true. The two met that year at the Paramount Studios, where Elvis had been filming for a movie, and soon became close confidants. The pair would frequently vacation together and would even sing songs together at parties with friends. Elvis' lifelong friend, Jerry Schilling, recalled how Tom Jones became one of Presley's most trusted and beloved friends until the star's death in 1977: "Elvis was always cautious about letting people get close and what their intentions were? But he was inspired by Tom and they became very good friends."
