Harry Blackstone PSA GEM MT 10 Endorsed Check
Signed check
20th-century illusionist Harry Blackstone (1885-1965) signature as "Harry Blackstone" in the endorsement section verso of Check no. 1939 dated February 19, 1949. Check made payable by the Commonwealth Bank of Detroit, Michigan agents to pay $982.30 to "Harry Blackstone." The handsome custom check with "World's Foremost Magician / Blackstone" at upper left is neatly engrossed and signed in purple ink by Lon Ramsdell, Blackstone's agent and company manager. Bearing the usual clerical hand-stamps including a "Paid" hand-stamp dated March 18, 1949. Expected cancellation punctures present with light toning and ink bleeding from Blackstone's signature. Else, near fine. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA to the overall size of 5.5" x 12.5", the signature receiving a grade of GEM MT 10.
Harry Blackstone dominated the Midwestern magic circuit in the early 20th century. His shows were classy, and the magician typically dressed in white tails. Blackstone's troupe consisted of costumed assistants and a pit orchestra. Audience goers would view such stunts as the Kellar Levitation, The Vanishing Bird Cage, The Floating Light Bulb, and Sawing a Woman in Half.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
