1935 MGM Check Endorsed by Chico, Harpo, and Groucho Marx
An endorsed check by three of the Marx Brothers, issued by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Corporation. Measuring 8.25" x 3.25", Culver City, California, dated March 5, 1936. A check, No. 50-217, Voucher No. C3104, drawn on the Bank of America National, with a payment of $2,552.56 made out to Chico, Harpo, and Groucho Marx. Endorsed on verso by the three brothers "Chico Marx", "Harpo Marx", and "Groucho Marx", with the direction that the check is to be deposited to the account of Julius H. Marx in the Bank of America, Beverly Hills Branch. Stamped on verso with a bank stamp and with "PAID" cancellation punches. The clean punches go through parts of Harpo and Groucho's signatures. Slabbed to the overall size of 9" x 6".
The Marx Brothers were comedian brothers Leonard "Chico" Marx (1887-1961); Adolph, later Arthur "Harpo" Marx (1888-1964); Julius "Groucho" Marx (1890-1977); Milton "Gummo" Marx (1893-1977); and Herbert "Zeppo" Marx (1901-1979). Chico, Harpo, Groucho, and Zeppo starred in seven short, compilation, and feature-length films at Paramount Studios between 1921-1933, including "Animal Crackers" (1930) and "Duck Soup" (1933). After the expiration of their contract with Paramount, the brothers signed with MGM and were billed as "Groucho, Chico, Harpo, Marx Bros." They produced such films with MGM as "A Night at the Opera" (1935) and "A Day at the Races" (1937).
