Group of 11 Civil Rights Wire Photos, Type II ft. Brown, Abernathy, Groppi, & Forman

A collection of 11 wire photographs of notable American Civil Rights leaders, as well as other international Civil Rights demonstrations, ranging in date from 1966 to 1969. Of varying sizes, measuring between 5" x 7" and 6.5" x 8.5". Photos include images of Black Panther leader H. Rap Brown (b. 1943), activist Ralph Abernathy (1926-1990), Father James E. Groppi (1930-1985), and James Forman (1928-2005). The majority feature Associated Press Wire Photo back stamps, with several containing printed text labels in Dutch affixed to verso. Varying degrees of darkened soiling, surface creasing, ink notations, and tearing throughout. A good to fair collection overall. Please see the accompanying images for further information.
Highlights include:
1.) Four photographs relating to H. Rap Brown, now known as Jamil Abdullah al-Amin, two of which show him following his release on bail after the Cambridge riot incident, where he was charged with inciting a riot. Two others show Brown speaking at demonstrations in Detroit and Washington.
2.) Two photographs relating to Ralph Abernathy, including one from the Poor Peoples March on Washington in which they marched through Atlanta on May 10, 1968, with another featuring Abernathy himself demonstrating outside of the White House a month before in April, protesting budget cuts to African American education.
3.) Two photographs relating to James E. Groppi, including one captured during an anti-segregation march showing Groppi leading a group of high-school-aged children, and another depicting a counter-protest held against him in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
4.) One photograph of James Forman during a demonstration at the Riverside Church in New York City, where he called for reparations to make up for injustices committed by white churches against African Americans.
5.) Two photographs relating to international Civil Rights demonstrations, including one anti-apartheid protest held outside the Marlborough House in London following Prime Minister Hendrik Verwoerd's assassination, and another anti-Portugal demonstration held outside the Portuguese Embassy in Kinshasa (Congo).
