Description
Several of lots 504 through 527 are part of a group of Russian items consigned by a prominent Cincinnati family. All may have been purchased from the Armand Hammer Sale of Imperial Russian items held at Marshall Field & Company in Chicago in July of 1933. Many have documentation from the Hammer Collection. Others do not but the all reportedly came from the Hammer Sale.
Small dresser box belonging to the Grand Duchess Anastasia, youngest daughter of Czar Nicholai II with Russian and English hallmarks. The oval cut glass box measures 4 1/4 long, 1 1/4 inches wide and 1 inches tall displaying the Harvard pattern. The cover bears Duchess Anastasia’s monogram below a small crown and edged by a dainty repoussé border. The cover is impressed with the right facing Kokoshnik, 84 standards and the Alpha symbol for St. Petersburg region and having English hallmarks of a rampant lion, the City of Chester shield and the year letter, a script “L” and maker initials C&C, possibly for Albert Cohen & Charles Soloman. A Russian Imperial Exhibit sticker is fixed to the bottom with a hand written statement the box belonged to Anastasia. Accompanied by a typed certificate from the Russian Imperial Exhibit from the Hammer Collection at Marshall Field & Company, Chicago, Illinois, dated July 15, 1933 with description. Few minor usage nicks and tiny dings to the silver cover. Precious and in very good condition.
