Leggero foxing, buon esemplare.Pregevole edizione, col testo latino ed italiano a fronte, del famoso poema didascalico del medico veronese Fracastoro (1478-1553), dedicato alla terribile malattia che imperversava in Italia e in Europa nel XV-XVI secolo. Chiamata mal francese dagli italiani e mal napoletano dai francesi, ha in campo scientifico assunto il nome derivante dal personaggio principale di quest'opera, il pastore Syphilus. Il poemetto rivela una notevolissima conoscenza dei sintomi e del decorso del male ed è documento di una cultura umanistica che vede anche la scienza attraverso un filtro di variazioni poetiche di gusto classico. Light foxing, good specimen.
Valuable edition, with facing Latin and Italian text, of the famous didactic poem by the doctor Fracastoro (1478-1553), dedicated to the terrible disease that raged in Italy in the 15th-16th century. Called “the French disease” by the Italians and “Neapolitan disease” by the French, in the scientific field it has taken the name deriving from the main character of this work, the shepherd Syphilus. The poem reveals a remarkable knowledge of the symptoms and course of the disease and is a document of a humanistic culture that also sees science through a filter of poetic variations of classical taste.
