La metoposcopia è l’arte della divinazione attraverso lo studio della fronte. Le linee presenti in una determinata zona sono dunque in corrispondenza con le caratteristiche di ciascun pianeta, così come sono definite dall’astrologia: il trattato propone poi una galleria di volti sui quali sono state tracciate diverse combinazioni di linee con le relative interpretazioni, in modo da offrire un’ampia casistica a supporto dell’osservazione empirica. In quest’edizione è incluso in appendice il trattato sui nei e sulle voglie della pelle attribuito a Melampus, autore del III secolo a.C., tradotto dal curatore, col testo originale greco.

Metoposcopy is the art of divination through the study of the forehead. The lines present in a given area therefore correspond to the characteristics of each planet, as defined by astrology: the treatise then proposes a gallery of faces on which various combinations of lines have been drawn with the relative interpretations, so to offer a wide range of cases in support of the empirical observation. This edition includes in the appendix the treatise on skin moles and birthmarks attributed to Melampus, author of the 3rd century BC, translated by the editor, with the original Greek text.
