Description
**First Time At Auction**
Jurassic period, ca. 183 to 175.6 million years ago. A large ammonite fossil (Arietites sp.), the shell cut and partially excavated from the surrounding stone matrix, leaving the lower stone intact and cut flat to create a natural stand for the shell to rest upright on. Larger ammonites usually do not survive fossilization - the shells often compress and collapse under the pressure - this 15 inch (38.1 cm) diameter is impressive! Whether you're a seasoned fossil collector, a lover of natural history, or simply someone with an eye for aesthetic beauty, this exquisite fossil is sure to command attention and spark conversation wherever it is showcased! Size: 15" L x 4" W x 13.25" H (38.1 cm x 10.2 cm x 33.7 cm)
