Two Fine 18th Century Portrait Miniatures With Massachusetts Interest

watercolor on , unsigned, the first attributed to William Verstille (MA, 1757-1803), depicting a gentleman in powdered wig, wearing a dark gray coat, presented behind glass in a gilt oval locket, reverse with woven hair plate (locket 2 x 1 1/2 in.; sight size 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 in.); the second by an unidentified artist, powdered wig worn en queue, with burgundy coat, the tag accompanying the work identifying the sitter as Timothy Fitch of Massachusetts, presented behind glass within a gilt oval brooch (brooch 2 3/8 x 1 3/8 in., sight size 1 5/8 x 1 3/8 in.).
