Very good condition José Vital Branco Malhoa was born in Caldas da Rainha, in the Region of Central Portugal, on April 28, 1855. At the age of 12 he entered the school of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Lisbon. In every year he won the first prize, due to his enormous faculties and artistic quality.
He has held numerous exhibitions, both in Portugal and abroad, namely in Madrid, Paris and Rio de Janeiro. He was pioneer of Naturalism in Portugal, having integrated the Lion Group. [3] He also stood out for being one of the Portuguese painters who most approached the Impressionist artistic current. He was the first president of the National Society of Fine Arts and was made Grand Officer of the Military Order of Sant'Iago of the Sword.
In 1933, the year of his death, the Museum of José Malhoa was created in Caldas da Rainha. He had artistic collaboration in the magazine Atlantida (5) (1915-1920). Its well-known "Casulo", in Figueiró dos Vinhos, is restored and available for visit. He was buried in the Prazeres Cemetery in Lisbon.
