Description
**Originally Listed At $400**

4 Chromolithographs by Tom Drake from Emile Humbert's rare folio Ecole de Cavalerie. Saumur: Javaud (1869). Emile Humbert's work about the famous French cavalry school at Saumur was renowned for Tom Drake's impressive depictions of horse exercises and military costumes which were simultaneously accurate and dramatic. Drake was a professor of drawing at Poitiers. The 4 prints included in this lot are: "Salut des Officiers" (Carrousel); "Course de Bagues" (Carrousel); "Saut de la Haie" (Carrousel) and "Course de Tetes" (Carrousel). "Course de Tetes: (Head Race) is a particularly striking image featuring a proud soldier on horseback victoriously presenting a stack of human heads displayed on his sword. A fascinating ensemble of prints, mounted behind glass in matching antique wooden frames. All four prints are mounted under glass in antique wood frames and have not been examined outside the frames. All present with varying degrees of foxing and wear commensurate with age. Frames also have normal age wear with scuffs, abrasions, and torn gallery paper on the versos. Fit with old suspension loops or wire which we would recommend replacing with new suspension wires.
