Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery jar with a thick, concave foot protruding from the bottom. Lining the shoulder is a register of three-dimensional nodules, perhaps intended to represent the buttons of a peyote cactus, and atop the shoulder is a dense motif of black-painted linear panels that stretch down to the midsection as well. Size: 8.8" Diameter x 6.75" H (22.4 cm x 17.1 cm)
Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966

Fading to surface pigment and light earthen deposits, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation to overall form, and nice root marks across scattered surfaces.
