Large oil on canvas with terrific color, showing a clipper ship on a dark green sea beneath a bright blue sky. Somewhat folk / naive style but with focused attention to detail, especially the sails and every line of rigging. No signature, unless its the illegible word on the small yellow and white flag. Canvas mounted to new stretchers. Period gilt frame, approx. 42" x 30". Sight, approx. 35 1/2" x 23 1/2". Provenance: the estate of John Long, highly regarded Virginia antiques dealer and collector.
