BIOGRAPHY:
Bernard Geiser was an artist-priest, ordained as an Episcopal minister in 1924. He was born in Geuda Springs, Kansas, and settled in Portland, Oregon where he died in 1965.Geiser studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the University of Oregon, the Portland Museum School of Art, and with Andrew Vincent and William Givler.He painted murals in France for the military during World War I, became the head of the art department at Western State College in Colorado, and resumed his career as a muralist in 1931 when he painted painted eleven murals and the frescoes over the high altar in St. Mark's Cathedral, Portland Oregon.Museums exhibiting Geiser's work include the Seattle, Denver and Portland Art Museums. He painted landscapes of the Pacific Northwest in oil, and later in his career produced a series of lithographs depicting Northwest landscapes.
