C1885 J. & J.G. LOW ART TILE WORKS FULL SIZE FIREPLACE -
CHELSEA MASS.
Glazed ceramic/majolica tiles, grout, enameled copper, iron.
Decorated using Amber/brown glaze, depicting maidens, geometric motifs and floral designs; framed by black enameled copper bands, with a frieze of Art Nouveau figural maidens to the main surround, the removable top with reticulated cast iron platform and amber/brown glaze geometric decorated plinth.
Signed Multiple(s): 3 Main Tiles, The iron range/element 2x. The iron/decorated top ? ALL - J.G. LOW Art Tile Works.

FWIW: We believe this J.G. LOW Art Tile Works fireplace; is most certainly OOAK: with possibly only 1 or 2 in existence.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: It is rather easy to find J.G. LOW plaques, tiles, fireplace surrounds, clocks?.but not an actually working full size fireplace made entirely by J.G. LOW. Circa 1885 ? Super rare.

CONDITION REPORT:
Several areas coarsely restored, several losses to tile (largest area measures 3 inches to back-left corner of top) and to grout. Rust and oxidation to all iron elements causing brittleness; two splits to internal range (each measuring 11 inches in length), extensive loss to backing (measuring 9 h x 18.5 w inches), and flaking to screen. Minor losses to enamel on copper bands. Otherwise displays beautifully. Note: The fireplace weighs approximately 300 pounds and must be professionally crate packed & shipped.

Condition
