Description
Georgetta Lucas Indiana (1920-2012) Parke County Scene, landscape oil on canvas Signed lower right, artist info verso. Biography from the Instagram account of Plainfield Public Library: Born Georgetta Snell in 1920 in Clay County, Indiana, she married Joseph Lucas in 1943. A graduate of Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University), Georgetta later received a master?s degree from Butler University and also studied at Herron School of Art. She and Joseph moved to Plainfield, Indiana, in 1946 where she taught music and art before staying home to raise three children. When she returned to teaching there were more openings for art teachers than music teachers, so she focused on that and began to paint professionally. In the 1970s Georgetta Lucas had paintings displayed all over the world, including in permanent collections at Indiana State University and IUPUI. In addition, a church in Frankfort, Germany, commissioned batik artwork done by her. Closer to home, she illustrated the book "Why So Sad, Little Rag Doll?" by Indianapolis author Carolyn Voorhees. She was an enthusiastic supporter of Indianapolis? Talbot Street Art Fair. Georgetta Lucas died in 2012 at the age of 92. 15 1/2"H x 19 1/2"W(sight), 23 1/2"H x 27 1/2"W(frame)
