Description
A. Fiorillo New York 20th Century All For All The Human Need / Mind Sabotage / The Constitution Apple / A Space Prophecy painted plaster plaques mounted on board All signed "AF" Biography adapted from the Stephen Romano Gallery in New York: Virtually nothing is known about the artist A. Fiorillo. It is believed that the artist, who was engaged in art making as a form of social activism, lived in Manhattan in the 1960's through the early 1980's. As a practitioner of bas-relief that depicts acts of social injustice towards marginalized populations by the American government, A. Fiorillo is said to have tried to sell their works on the streets of New York. Without any success, they decided to abandon their works at the headquarters of the Communist Party of America, who also didn't know what to do with them. Eventually, the works were taken to the local Goodwill where the entire body of work languished for several years collecting dust and grime. Eventually, renowned antiques dealer and owner of one of the most eccentric collections of International Art and Design, Elli Buk, spotted them and took them to his shop in the flowers district of Manhattan. After Buk?s passing in 2013, the entire body of work of A. Fiorillo went to auction. Since then, while we have come no closer to identifying who A. Fiorillo might be. The works themselves have been included in exhibitions at The Metro Show in New York, The Morbid Anatomy Museum in Brooklyn and commercial galleries in New York as well. 11 1/4"H x 9 3/4"W(one)
