The Federalist: A Collection of Essays, written in favour of the new Constitution, as agreed upon by the Federal Convention, September 17, 1787. New York: 1788. 16mo. pp. vi, 227, vi, 384. Two volumes bound in one. Leather bound. Originally the property of James Somerville, a confirmed resident of Granville County, North Carolina during the latter quarter of the 18th century. His bookplate is present on the front pastedown. Five missing pages in total. The first missing page is blank leaf after the front free-endpaper, the next missing pages are the title pages of each of the volumes, and the last two blank leafs after the last printed page (384). Back of the text block has been rebacked to the spine. Pages toned. Occasional page defects such as tears, holes, folds, and other defects.
