19thC FRENCH GILT BRONZE MANTLE CLOCK French Louis XVI Style Gustave Levy gilt bronze striking mantel clock, the imposing circa 1850 piece with an ornate architectural case supported on either side by languishing semi-nude nymphs, adorned with sprays of flowers, swags of floral and leaf-and-berry garlands, scrolling foliage, rosettes, and a cartouche with ring of dancing cherubs, topped with an urn finial with lid opening to a well, embellished with ram heads, grapes and vines, the white enamel dial face with black Roman numerals, Arabic second numerals, gilt filigree metal hands, and the inscription, "G.J. Levy / Paris / Rue Sevigne, 29," the backplate impressed "EB 10105." The workshop of renowned metalworker and sculptor Gustave Levy (active 1855-1881) Won gold and bronze medals at the World Exhibitions in London 1862, Paris 1867, Vienna 1873, and Paris again in 1878 - 21" x 7 1/2" x 27" H
