Description
A BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA BHAISAJYAGURU, MING DYNASTY

China, 1368-1644. Seated in padmasana atop a lotus throne, the right hand lowered and clasped around a myrobalan fruit, the left hand held above the lap, dressed in long flowing robes opening at the chest, tied at the waist, and cascading in folds gathering at the top of the base, the hems incised with floral scroll, the face with a serene expression marked by downcast eyes below gently arched brows centered by an urna above full lips forming a subtle smile, flanked by elongated earlobes. The hair tightly arranged in small pointed curls surrounding the ushnisha.

Provenance: Swedish trade. A private collector in Sweden, acquired from the above.
Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age, with expected old wear and numerous casting flaws. Some corrosion. Minor nicks, losses and small dents, light scratches. Remnants of ancient pigment and lacquer gilding.
