Very fine Silver-mounted German Faience Tankard, 18th Century, painted polychrome floral and stylized architectural details. Silver lid comprises a silver coin (1675 Danish Krone possibly) , rampant lion on hinge, and mulitple engraved inscriptions, one which reads, ' Given by their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales, to Percy W. Doyle 1882'. 2.25lbs From the estate of Hans Cohn, an investment banker and art collector who showed his extensive collections of glass and other works from ancient civilizations at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and elsewhere over the past several years. Cohn and his wife, Varya, amassed antiquities from Greek, Roman, Etruscan and Egyptian cultures that were shown at LACMA in 1990, and the museum opened a permanent installation of the Cohns' collection of ancient glass pieces the same year.
