Item Details
Description
Eastern Roman Empire, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A "baby feeder" or alembic-like vessel with a large bowl and a narrow spout nozzle projecting from the side, free blown from a pale yellow, semi-translucent glass. This unusual shape has led to some speculation of the vessel's function, and researchers and museum collections have posited that it was a feeder or straw for babies or those too weak to eat, an oil lamp filler, or a physician / chemist alembic. Size: 4.5" L x 2" W x 2" H (11.4 cm x 5.1 cm x 5.1 cm)
