Description
"Lincoln & Herndon, Attorneys and Counselors at Law". Illinois Journal. Vol. XXX, No. 216. Springfield, Illinois: Bailhache & Baker, 23 February 1861.

A rare Lincoln & Herndon advertisement in a Springfield, Illinois newspaper from 1861, when Lincoln was already President-elect, declarations of secession had been issued by seven states, and Jefferson Davis had been selected as the provisional president of the Confederacy on 9 February. Indeed, Lincoln had actually already departed Springfield, giving an emotional farewell address on 11 February before heading to Washington, D.C.

Lincoln had effectively stopped practicing law after his nomination, however, his law partner, William Herndon, maintained the practice throughout the election and his presidency.
