Description
North Pacific, Hawaiian Islands, ca. 1860 to 1890 CE. A stunning piece of wood made of tiger-eye Koa that has been skillfully lathed into a shallow dish, the pattern virtually changing before your eyes as it moves in the light. Rounded shallow platters like this example were used in native feasts, traditionally by those of royal or at least high standing. A set of 4 butterfly ties along the top repair. Size: 11.5" Diameter (29.2 cm)
