Description
Rare and early 1840s Jackson County, now present day Barrow County, Georgia from the Ferguson shop. This two gallon jug is hard to find because of small production levels due to minimal population size at this time period. This one has outstanding form with a modified lime alkaline glaze. Strong Edgefield, South Carolina traits as he was trained in Edgefield and and made the migration to the area. Rare tooled mouth and strong bodied handle that are classic traits of Ferguson pottery. The glaze is under-fired and still does have a nice look and again the from is outstanding. Fresh example from a Elbert County Georgia estate. Standing 14 1/2" Tall
Condition
Collector grade example due to rarity and overall very good condition. Has a mid body firing line due to poor watered down alkaline glaze. One small minor lip chip and no hairlines or repairs.
