Description
A late 19th century coin-op horse race machine. This machine is designed to work on a penny, but could have easily been converted to nickel usage. The standard "cake dome" glass was employed to cover the race track and horses, and the sides have a stamped daisy pattern on the tin. On the underside is a round trap, where the operator retrieved his money using a hook with eyelet. It is called the "Gem," and distributed by the Central City Novelty Company of Syracuse, NY, in 1890. CONDITION: There is light oxidation to the stamped tin sides, original paint on the horses and original dome lid hold-down brackets. A great early example of a horse race trade stimulator. Condition: (Very Good) Dimensions: 14" x 14" x 14 - 1/2".
