Description
This very early automaton made by Lambert appears on page 351 of Bailey's "Age of Automaton," where it is shown advertising clothing and lifting a card for view as it taps the window. These tappers were used to get customer's attention and his left arm raises a card to be viewed by patrons looking through the window. This is an amazing piece of early automaton in that it wasn't only made to entertain, but to advertise. CONDITION: The automaton shows wear for its age and shows some tattering to the original clothing of the figure. It is fully operational, and the card in his left hand could be replaced with any card of advertising at the new owner's desire. PROVENANCE: From the lifelong collection of Bill Howard. Condition: (Good) Dimensions: 29"
