A PAIR OF LOUIS XVI STYLE ORMOLU MOUNTED MARQUETRY INLAID ENCOIGNURE CABINETS, AFTER THE DESIGNS OF PAUL SORMANI, FRENCH, PARIS, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, the curved fan form white marble tops with stepped corners rest atop a flower garland inlaid frieze within string inlaid blocks with ormolu mounted rosettes surmounting an egg-and-dart trim centering an aesthetic scene composed of exotic woods including tulipwood, satinwood, and teak inlaid scene of fluttering insects, morning glory trumpets, and rosebud flowering urn surrounded by a gilt ormolu bead chain, geometric string inlay, and swirling ormolu rosettes, flanked by corbels encrusted with acanthus leaves over an engaged fillet column hung with oak leaf and acorn swag, ending with a fruiting spray of leaves, the conforming skirt with leafy lamb's tongue applied ormolu trim centering an ormolu shell rocaille spray with wilted rosebud swag on semiclad egg-and-dart ormolu mounted compressed, turned legs. The designs of Paul Sormani were carried on after his passing by his son Paul Charles Sormani (1848-1926) In 1914 Paul Charles Sormani joined up with Thiebalt Freres forming Theibault-Sormani House in Paris, which produced high-quality Louis XV and Louis XVI styles until 1934 when it closed.

Some veneer loss/damage, old exposure to woodworm with apparent scattered areas with holes, some chips to marble with surface scratches, and general wear. One cabinet slightly wobbles.
