Description
A LOUIS XV, KING OF FRANCE, SIGNATURE ON LETTER OF HONOR, FOR JACQUES GEORGES ANTOINE DE COURTOIA MIMU, VERSAILLES, JANUARY 21, 1767, a mid 18th century, Rococo period, manuscript ink on paper with red underlining on cream paper, at the top left, "Letters of honor in favor of Mr. De Courtoia Mimu, Counselor at the Parliament of Toulouse," recognizing eleven years of public service in "The state and Office of Counselor at Our Court of Justice of the Parliaments of Toulouse," his service beginning January 22, 1755, the king approving his early retirement, countersigned by the King of France, "Louis;" 12 3/4" x 19 1/4", framed 17" x 21".

Other Notes: A translation; Louis, by the Grace of God King of France and of Navarre, To all of Our friends and loyal followers, counselors of Our people in charge of Our Court of Justice and Parliaments in Tououse, greetings. Our friend and loyal follower Mr. Jacques Georges Antoine De Cortoia Mimu, Our Counselor and Ordinary Master of the Requests of Our hotel, has served Us and Our public for close to eleven years in the State and Office of Counselor at our Court of Justice of the Parliament of Toulouse, where he served in this function with the utmost distinction since the twenty-second of January one-thousand-sevend-hundred-and-fifty-five, received subsequently provisions that he had obtained the preceding fourteenth of September (and made use of) until last twentieth of December. He delegated Mr. François Atnoine Félix de Raymond to receive them in his name and place. And since We want to give Mr. De Cortoia Mimu the proof of the satisfaction that We have received as much from this service as from the many services that he is actually giving Us as from the many services that were given to Us by his late father in his office as Counselor at Our Court of Justice of the Parliament of Toulouse and by his ancestors in different important functions of the Magistrature, We have decided to grant him letters of Honor in the office as Counselor of Justice of the Parliament of Toulouse and to exempt him from (years of service) he lacked at the time of the required service. FOR ALL THESE REASONS and other considerations, We have allowed and granted these to Mr. De Cortoia Mimu by Our special grace and Our full Royal power and authority. We are handing over and granting these present Letters of Honor signed by Our hand. We want and it pleases Us that in spite of him resigning (retiring) from his office, he should call himself qualified for all cases and in all circumstances and our honorary Counselor at our Court of Justice of the Parliament of Toulouse, he should be granted entrance, the rank (of Counselor at the court of Justice of the Parliament of Toulouse), the right to sweat and give his voice during any deliberation, as much from the day of the reception of the cases as on the day of the hearing, as much in the Chamber of the council as in all public and private assemblies, and he should enjoy as many honors, authority, perrogatives, preeminence, franchises, immunities, exemptions, advantages and privileges as he enjoyed before his resignation(retirement) And regarding the nine more years that are missing to Mr. De Cortoia Mimu (for a full retirement) according to the terms of the required services (stipulated) by Our ordinances, We have lifted them and exempted him from them. We lift them and exempt him from them by these present (Letters of honor), without him however being able to pretend to any wages, spices, rights, vacation, and emoluments belonging to the said office. THEREFORE, WE SUMMON you to record these present (Letters of honor) and have Mr. De Cortoia Mimu enjoy their content fully and peacefully and to stop and make stop any impediments contrary (to these Lettesr) For such is Our good pleasure. Given in Versailles the twenty-first Day of January of the year of our Lord one-thousand-seven-hundred-sixty-seven, and the fifty-second (year) of Our Reign. For the King. Louis. (In the left margin, an abbreviation, Master of the Requests)
