Jean-Baptiste Robie was a Belgian artist from Brussels. He was an Orientalist painter with Neoclassical influences, notably with his color palette. Robie was inspired by nature and mostly created still life paintings of flower arrangements. He enjoyed painting large roses and made them the centerpiece in many of his works. Robie’s “Rose Bouquet” series is his best-known work. In addition to painting, Robie was also a successful writer. His trips to India prompted him to write several travel books about his experience with Indian culture and tradition, as well as art history surrounding the culture.
