Description
5 Vietnamese 15th to early 16th Century Blue & White crackle glazed Porcelains: a jar with associated cover decorated with a band of scrolling flowers between bands of petals and leaves and the unglazed base with brown slip, a low bowl or plate with a central flowering branch and scrolling leaves and flowers to the cavetto with petals underneath and the unglazed base with brown slip; together with 3 small fruit shaped covered round boxes with stem finials, with designs of petals, grasses and birds, the recessed bases unglazed. Height of jar with cover 7 inches (17.8 cm.). Diameter of plate 9 1/2 inches (24 cm.). NOTE: Identical or closely comparable with other pieces from the Hoi An Hoard Shipwreck with similar traces of submersion corrosion and marine encrustation; all originally sold in large groups over 3 days at Butterfield's, San Francisco, 11-13 October, 2000.
Condition
Age related wear from submersion, the jar with 4 small burst glaze areas and each piece with a few tiny flakes to some edges; 1 small round box cover a tight fit.
