PROVENANCE Property From the Playboy Archives
This assemblage appeared on page 154 of the January 1967 issue of Playboy magazine, as part of the pictorial "The Playmate as Fine Art: Eleven contemporary artists interpret Playboy's provacative gatefold girl" with the caption, "[Schnackenberg] tried to show the juxtaposition of images suggested by the Playmate" in his wood and plastic oil-painted relief of girl and rabbits. The sun-red Playmate figure is set in a 3 x 4-ft. box, and includes folding directions."
LITERATURE: Arthur Paul, Beyond Illustration: The Art of Playboy, (Chicago: Playboy Magazine, 1971), catalogue accompanying an exhibition that traveled in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan between 1971 and 1974.
