The invention of the hot air balloon is attributed to the Montgolfier brothers, Joseph Michel (1740-1810) and Jacques-Etienne (1745-1799). The brothers successfully launched their hot air balloon at Annonay, France, drawing a large crowd. This event is considered the first public ballooning demonstration of an unmanned aircraft.
