Nien Cheng 念鄭 or Zheng Nian 鄭念 (January 28, 1915 - November 2, 2009) was the pen name of Yao Nien-Yuan (姚念媛). She was a Chinese author known for recounting her experiences during the Cultural Revolution in her memoir Life and Death in Shanghai.

ARTIST BIO: Chen Zhifo 陳之佛 (1896 - 1962) a master of gongbi bird-and-flower painting and a pioneer of Chinese modern applied arts, was the first Chinese to study pattern design in Japan at government grants. The phrase “pattern design” at that time is equivalent to the idea of “design” today. After returning to China, Chen taught at the Shanghai Oriental Art School, Shanghai Art University, the National Central University and the National College of Art, where he also served as the principal. He was devoted to cultivating professional and excellent artists for China and had made tremendous contributions to art education.
