Description
A 20th-century Egyptian cast copper sculpture of a cat. The figure is wearing a gilt collar, a scarab pendant, and an earring in the left ear. Etched hieroglyphic inscription on the base. In Ancient Egypt, some bronze statues of cats were created to house mummified cats and subsequently offered to the feline goddess Bastet, the goddess of the domestic sphere. Most of such figures are found in the site of Bubastis, an ancient town notable as a center of Bastet worship. Collectible Sculpture And Decor, Travel Souvenirs, Egyptian Revival.
