Description
Southeast Asia, Cambodia or Northern Thailand, Khmer Empire (Angkor culture), ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A beautiful set of 4 stoneware vessels displaying a nice assortment of forms. Each boasting a lustrous mocha-hued glaze, the ancient vessel feature buff terracotta bases and are of votive forms including oil lamp, fountain, lion and jar. Ceramics during this period were made on potter wheels which increased pottery production to meet the demand for these elegant vessels. Note how the mocha glaze pools in some areas forming a rich shade of espresso that nicely complements the graceful form of each gorgeous example. Size of largest: 2.25" W x 5.75" H (5.7 cm x 14.6 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
