Chester "George" Shepherd (American, 1894-1957) Oil on Canvas "The North American XP-28 Dragon", H 24" W 28" | Signed in the lower right. Illustration on canvas depicting James Howard "Dutch" Kindelberger, President of North American Aviation, a test pilot, and an executive discussing the performance of North American Aviation's prototype bomber, the XP-28 Dragon. The XP-28 was ordered by the US Army in 1940 and two prototypes were delivered in 1942. Stretched canvas, unframed. Provenance: Property of Prominent Collector, Birmingham, Michigan

Condition

Original canvas and stretcher. Unrestored, untouched condition. Edges of the canvas were painted a solid white, most of this has flaked off. Pigment loss in the image in the upper left corner. Pressure indentation with flaking at the test pilot's leg. Surface soiling. Scattered small surface scuffs.
