Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Zacatecas culture, Early Classic Period, ca. 250 to 450 CE. A hand-built pottery figure depicting a female figure seated on thick legs that create a stable base. The entire body is hollow, the top of her head, eyes, and mouth are open as vent holes, and the ear spools are perforated as well. The surface is slip painted with orange-red and beige stripes. This Zacatecas style is specific to areas of Jalisco, Mexico and scholars believe they were produced only for a brief period of ancient Mesoamerican history and are usually discovered within deep shaft tombs as offerings or protectors of the deceased. Size: 2" L x 1.25" W x 4" H (5.1 cm x 3.2 cm x 10.2 cm)

Condition
Professional restoration to left side of head and nearly indiscernible. Bright pigments throughout and earthen deposits on interior. Old inventory number on underside of foot surface.
