Captions in lower margins, in the negative. 20x25 cm (8x9¾").Revealing photographs of Cuba just after the end of the Spanish-American War. Shown are government buildings, festive ballrooms, hospitals, wharfs, plazas, rivers, barrios, and a marvelous view of "streets on the sea" (calles sobre el mar), with 9 young women and girls in a rowboat between houses on stilts in the water. In addition to the captions in the negatives, each with a more extensive ink caption on the back, in Spanish, dated 1902. The captions basically state that these photos are the first shots of the newsly independent Cuba under President Thomas Estrada Palma, the first President of the Republic of Cuba.
