Provenance: Manuel Reguera Saumell collection, recognized as one of the great Cuban writers and playwrights of the 20th century. As the set of photographs that accompany this collection testify, Reguera forged a close friendship with the most outstanding exponents of Cuban art during the years he spent in his native country. It was then when Reguera, supported by the bond that united him with Amelia Peláez, Rene Portocarrero, Carlos Abela or Antonia Eiriz, began his facet as a collector, giving birth to what would become his personal collection.

A prolific Cuban painter, Servando Cabrera trained at the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Havana, graduating in 1942, two years after his debut at the city's Fine Arts Salon. In 1943 he held his first individual exhibition at the Liceum in Havana, and since then he has been present in the halls and salons of the Cuban capital. In 1946 he traveled to the United States and studied at the Arts Students League of New York, becoming involved in the world of theater and costume and set design. Three years later he made a trip to Europe, where he attended the Grande Chaumière Academy in Paris. During these years he exhibited his work in Spain and France, and before returning to Cuba he visited Mexico and Central America. His painting was integrated into the revolutionary art on his return to Cuba, although from the mid-sixties he would return to the abstract experiments he had begun decades earlier under the influence of cubism, this time with a clear influence of American expressionism. Nevertheless, his painting never stopped evolving. Throughout his life, Cabrera held more than a hundred exhibitions, twenty of them solo exhibitions, both in America and Europe. He is currently represented at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, the Veranneman in Belgium, the National Gallery of Sofia in Bulgaria, the ICAIC in Havana, the UN in New York, the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana and other prominent public and private collections.
