American. 1920s. Metal. The hood ornament went on the radiator which would tell the temperature. The monogram junior clip pulls ahead so that the ornament can hinge backward to access the rad without unscrewing it. Each was personalized and made for the owner. ET Strong was the president of Buick. One night at a prestigious private club, ET challenged Durant to a race, with the loser giving up their hood ornament. They raced down Woodward avenue in Detroit, with Durrant being the winner. ET lost it in the race because Durrant had a much faster car. They became obsolete when dash-mounted temperature gauges appeared around 1930. Marked, "The Motometer Co Inc., L.I. City NY, USA.", lower edge of the gauge. Stamped, on both sides. Ornament: 6" x 7.25" x 3.25". Opening: 2.5".

Overall very good condition. Complete with the box and instructions. No significant cracks or chips. Multiple hairlines behind the wings and surrounding the hinge of the winged pedestal.
