Spirit Owl, c. 1963
coloured pencil on paper, 20 x 20.75 in (50.8 x 52.7 cm)
signed, "ᑭᓄᐊᔪᐊ".
Provenance
A French Collection.
Spirit Owl by Kenojuak Ashevak is an exuberant celebration of colour, its canvas bursting with a joyful kaleidoscope that ranges from warm, earthy browns and oranges to cool, refreshing blues and greens. The artist's vibrant use of hues infuses the composition with a cheerful vitality, effectively invoking a sense of elation and festivity. The interplay of these colours creates a dynamic composition, leading the eye across the interconnected forms that are both part of the owl and the surrounding space. With its bold, central composition, this work quintessentially captures the spirit of Kenojuak's style of the early to mid 1960s.
