Description
Rare Plate with Enamel Painting Bohemia, circa 1600 Cobalt blue glass with bubbles and inclusions. Slightly raised floor with tear-off. Stood as a ring-shaped glass thread. Wide, slightly slanted flag. Decoration in white enamel: in the recessed mirror, stylized rosette of lines, strokes and curled tendrils; on the flag, four flowering perennials alternating with scale ornamentation; on the outer edge two ring lines and arched border. D. 19.5 cm In his monograph on utility glass, Thomas Dexel emphasizes the rarity of glass plates and justifies it with the fact that glass plates have been less popular as objects of daily use because of their fragility. This shell shape is not 'glassy' in the sense of the material. Lit.: Thomas Dexel, Gebrauchsglas, p. 60f. Lit.: Rainer Rückert. The glass collection of the Bavarian National Museum in Munich. No. 169, identical shape, similar décor. Lit.: Brigitte Klesse, Axel von Saldern, 500 Years of Glass Art, Biemann Collection, No. 273, identical form, enamel decoration.
