Title: Tramp Art Box by Herman Metz
Description: Herman Metz Tramp Art box on four curved legs and a lift-top. Has his signature carved slats surround. Futuristic and unique. Herman Fredrick Metz was a fireman in St Joseph, MO who died tragically when he was thrown from the firewagon he was driving to a fire in 1918. Metz made a dozen futuristic looking tramp art pieces. After his death his widow wrapped the pieces in newspapers where they stayed for over 80 years before they were discovered by a family member. Metz also made elaborate horn furniture and he exhibited them in the 1904 World's Fair. His work is featured in 'Tramp Art, Another Notch' on page 20 & 21.
