Three folk art memory jugs, likely African American, which was their tradition in preserving the memory of a loved one, mid to late 19th century. These jugs, as they are referred to, are 2 early bottles and a redware vase, and are adorned with an assortment of items including a hand blown doll's eye, crystals, shards, jewelry, coins (one coin is a "United We Stand Divided We Fall" Pittsburgh Dry Goods Civil War Token), miniature frozen Charlotte dolls and parts, buttons, seashells, etc. - note that the 2 bottles each have sculptured snakes wrapped around their necks. Some losses, otherwise good condition. The largest measures 12 3/8"H. Provenance: From the Thomas & Gail Rockwell collection, LaGrangeville NY. Tom is the son of the renowned American artist, Norman Rockwell and the author or many children's books. His late wife Gail, was an artist-illustrator and the daughter of Arthur E. Sudler and Janet Whitson Sudler, both early 20th century artists - she illustrated several of her husband's children's books.
