Description
An early pine Hudson Valley blanket chest with lift top storage compartment over 2 lower drawers with oval Hepplewhite pulls which appear to be original. Mounted on original bracket base with cutout apron on the front and on the back of base - the top is loose from box but hinges still in place on case - the top also with original shaped cleats. Original red stain only on reverse. Circa 1800-20. Measures 44 5/8"W x 20 3/4"D x 36 3/4"H. Note label on reverse, partially illegible signed "E.A. Volk Mt. Airy Road Croton-on-Hudson......". Provenance: From the Thomas & Gail Rockwell collection, LaGrangeville NY. Tom is the son of the renowned American artist, Norman Rockwell and the author or many children's books. His late wife Gail, was an artist-illustrator and the daughter of Arthur E. Sudler and Janet Whitson Sudler, both early 20th century artists - she illustrated several of her husband's children's books.
