Description
An interesting folk art circular covered sewing basket with thread holders mounted to the sides of the interior and pincushion top with turned finial, mid 19th century. There are also numbers and letters impressed into the top exterior of the body where the threads are located, likely to indicate type of thread on the interior. The pincushion is worn and loosing some of its stuffing, minor chips to the layered wooden surfaces, likely had a base which is missing but overall good condition. Retains its original sewing notions. Overall good condition. It measures 14 1/2" diameter of top x 11 1/4"H to top of finial. Provenance: From the Thomas & Gail Rockwell collection, LaGrangeville NY. Tom is the son of the renowned American artist, Norman Rockwell and the author or many children's books. His late wife Gail, was an artist-illustrator and the daughter of Arthur E. Sudler and Janet Whitson Sudler, both early 20th century artists - she illustrated several of her husband's children's books.
