Moroccan Mirror Cover, Tetouan, Early 20th C. The mirror silk cover, known as tenifa and specific to Tetouan, is a long embroidered panel draped over mirrors during weddings and celebrations to ward off the evil eye. These pieces are crafted from freehand drawings directly on fabric, employing the double running stitch and the double darning stitch in checkered or diagonal patterns. Executed on silk satin, the polychromatic colors are warm, vibrant, and robust. The motifs include summer florals, serrated flowers, leaves, and geometric shapes, all set against a Moroccan blue ground. Size: 82'' x 16'' (208 x 41 cm). Provenance: Ex Yosi Barzilai collection.
