Description

Persian Brocade Coat, 19th C. The coat is made from silk brocade, featuring an overall boteh pattern on a pale mustard yellow ground. The front opening is edged in metallic embroidery, and silver brocade paneled bands embellish the front collar. This garment was most likely worn as an honorific piece for special occasions, with the material's color and patterns carefully chosen to suit the audience and the occasion. Size: 4'7'' x 5'1'' (140 x 155 cm). Provenance: Ex Yosi Barzilai collection.
