Description
Persian Long Vest, 19th C. Made from silk and metallic thread, this brocade vest features an overall boteh pattern on a pale mustard yellow ground. The front and arm openings are elegantly edged with gold ribbon and black silk fringe. Every border is adorned with couched gold embroidery. Originating from 19th-century Persia, this brocade vest was an integral part of a woman's outfit. Typically worn over a loose-fitting shirt, it would be paired with either a skirt or pants and a jacket. Size: 52'' (length) x 12'' (shoulder) (132 x 30 cm). Provenance: Ex Yosi Barzilai collection.
